In 1989, the club started promoting its own show, for the first couple of years we partnered with the Maritime Paint Horse association. The show committee and the members of the NBApHC thought it would be an excellent way to remember Ronnie and his love for the Appaloosa's he loved so dearly.
With the blessing of Ronnie's mom, Laura Wilkins the show officially became the Ronnie Wilkins Memorial Horse Show in 2000. From the moment Mrs. Wilkins said yes, a living memorial to Ronnie was born.
Since 2000 the NBApHC has strived to improve the show every year. With numbers increasing each year, the Appaloosa's soon out numbered the Paints, it became necessary to do an Appaloosa only show. The Ronnie Wilkins Show increased the number of Judges, from one (1) Judge a day to two (2) Judges per day, with a full slate of classes in English and Western performance and Halter.
We are proud to offer a $400.00 Most Colourful Added, $200.00 Hunter in Hand Added Classes to name a few. With the addition of The New Brunswick Appaloosa Breeders Committee $1000.00 Weanling Futurity the show continues to grow in numbers and popularity.
A special treat last year was the "Grooms Class". With the emphasis on fun, riders and spectators enjoyed the live commentary from the announcer. Special thanks to all the exhibitors who donated their horses to the likes of Lucky Lenny, Too hot to trot Mama Sylvie Milne, Annie get your guns Loretta Buchannan,One speed Alex Jurgens just to name a few.
The NBApHC and the Ronnie Wilkins Show Committee servers up a tasty BBQ and Corn boil Saturday night. With Hotdogs, 100% ground Beef Hamburgers, Cesar Salad, Coleslaw, fresh picked Corn and assorted condiments, no one walks away hungry. This is a chance to relax, unwind laugh about the days events and enjoy each others company.
